On 26 October, 2009, in an exhibition hall of TBC Bank, there was opened
exhibition, dedicated to the survival-rehabilitation of the Tbilisi academy
historical building. There were presented masterpieces, created by Gigo
gabashvili, Mose Toidze, Korneli Sanadze, Elene Akhvlediani, etc. Exposition
was accompanied by photo series, representing the history and current
conditions of the building of the second half of 19th century. The building,
that’s one of the most remarkable architectural monuments of Tbilisi, having
the unique Khajar halls, needs to be rehabilitated immediately.
The building, that was projected by an architect Ivanov in 1856, was
transformed to the academy building in 1922. In the past, the building, to
say exactly-the palace, was owned by the nobleman Arshakun. Decorating of
interiors were done by Iranian masters, working in Tbilisi. In earlier times
(until 1937), the ballet studio of M. Perin, spouse of artist H. Hrinevski,
as well as the artist’s studio, had been taking place in this buildings
complex. Afterwards, Giorgi (Gigo) Gabashvili-the academy professor’s
studio, and then, the living flats of Kobulashvilies and others, had been
located there.
The building was restored once-in 1972, with participation of the academy
teachers and students. In the same year, there was built the academy new,
10-storeys building (architect L. Sumbadze, constructor D. Kajaia), that, in
2005-2006 was completely restored by Cartu Group.
